States lag in identifying gifted students, new study finds

An examination of Minnesota’s Gifted Population and Programming,  researchers have given Minnesota an “F” for its failure to require gifted programs in all districts.  The decision has been left up to the districts and to date, only one third of the districts across the state have gifted programs. Despite reported that they have programming, a closer look would reveal little or no programming. An accountability system for measuring growth in critical and creative thinking could be arranged through a state wide purchase.  MDE could establish the system, collect data electronically, analyze student performance and report findings.
