THIS LEGISLATION ADDRESSES ISSUES OF EQUITY, EQUALITY, ECONOMICS

EQUITY IS ADDRESSED. Educational equity is the study and achievement of fairness, justice, and impartiality (equality) in education. The term equity means accommodating and meeting the specific needs of specific individuals. This means ensuring that everyone’s learning needs are met. here are many different ways that we can define equity. The dictionary definition of equity is “justice according to natural law or right; freedom from bias or favoritism.” When we talk about equity in education, we usually mean something similar to “fairness.” But what does this look like in practice at the national, district, school, classroom, or individual student level? THE LANGUAGE OF THIS LEGISLATION INCLUDES THE ELEMENT OF “UNIVERSAL SCREENING”.  PRACTICED WITH FIDELITY, MORE STUDENTS OF COLOR, MORE DISABLED STUDENTS, MORE STUDENTS NOT TYPICALLY IDENTIFIED, WOULD QUALIFY FOR GIFTED PROGRAMS.  IT IS INCLUSIVE AND ON GOING BY NATURE.

EQUALITY IS ADDRESSED, While EDUCATIONAL equality means treating every student the same, equity means making sure every student has the support they need to be successful. Equity in education requires putting systems in place to ensure that every child has an equal chance for success. THIS LEGISLATION TREATS ALL STUDENTS THE SAME. THE EXPECTATION OF THE LEGISLATION WOULD HOLD DISTRICTS ACCOUNTABLE TO TEACH THESE SKILLS, TO ALL STUDENTS, K-12   ALL FIVE SKILLS INCLUDED IN THIS LEGISLATION ARE GROUNDED IN RESEARCH THAT DEMONSTRATES A POSITIVE IMPACT OF STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT.  ALL OF THE RESEARCH SUPPORTING THIS LEGISLATION ARE LINKED TO THE NARROWING OF THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP.

ECONOMIC ISSUES ARE ADDRESSED. OUR POPULATION IS CHANGING.  IN THE FALL OF 2019 NEARLY ONE HALF OF OUR STUDENTS WERE STUDENTS OF COLOR.  OUR WORKPLACE IS CHANGING AND OUR STUDENTS NEED A DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE. THEY NEED A DIFFERENT PREPARATION.  THEY NEED TO BE TAUGHT THE ADVANCED SKILLS INCLUDED IN THIS LEGISLATION.  “School improvement efforts can benefit individuals’ earnings and balance state budgets, says Hanushek. “As the skills of today’s students improve, the skills of tomorrow’s workers advance. Realizing these gains does require a sustained commitment on the part of a state’s political leaders. But if we are to achieve prolonged economic growth in our nation, we have no choice but to strengthen the skills of all our people.” WITHIN THE NEXT 4 YEARS WE WILL SEE STUDENTS GRADUATING, BETTER PREPARED FOR COLLEGE AND THE CHANGING WORKPLACE.  WE WILL SEE THEM TAKING ON JOBS THAT WILL GENERATE GREATER TAX REVENUE FOR THE STATE, MORE DISPOSAL INCOME FOR HOME OWNING, MORE CAPACITY TO ENGAGE IN CIVIC ACTIVITIES WITHOUT TAKING ON ADDITIONAL JOBS.  THEY WILL HAVE ACCESS TO BETTER HEALTHCARE AND LIVE BETTER LIVES.
